Matthew was born in Waynesboro, VA and grew up in Roanoke, VA. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 2007, he spent the next seven years cooking professionally in the restaurant
industry. Matthew returned to his alma mater to complete his MA in Spanish, before heading to the University of Virginia, where he recently earned his PhD in Spanish. Matthew currently
resides in Charlottesville with his partner, María, and their rescue dog, Mona.
Matthew’s interests include cooking, film photography, baseball, gardening, playing with his dog, and exploring the antique shops in Ruckersville. An avid reader, he particularly enjoys
speculative fiction (in English and Spanish). Matthew loves listening to all genres of music, but his favorite artist is David Bowie.
