Outdoor Educators Gather for Annual Conference

Outdoor Educators Conference

The Outdoor & Experiential Educators Network gathered on February 16 at nearby Camp Albemarle to provide an opportunity for teachers from public and independent schools to share successful strategies for introducing students to the multitude of opportunities available in the outdoors.

This annual workshop has been a highlight for many outdoor educators in Virginia over the years to learn about how other schools are utilizing their resources and settings to impact students. There are always exciting programs for schools and organizations to showcase! This year’s workshop focused on the themes of climate action and sustainability.

Cory Woods, Blue Ridge School’s Director for Environmental Resources, helped organize the event and presented on “Why Prioritize Biodiversity?” Other sessions included curriculum sharing, how to develop outdoor sports and activities on campus, student mental health, and a keynote address by Teri Kent of the Community Climate Collaborative. The day included 7 different presentations and 21 participants from 13 different institutions.
